Our Registrar’s International Recognition is an Honour for Jamia: Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif

JMI Registrar Prof. Mahtab Rizvi appointed Visiting Professor at a Nepalese University

 

New Delhi, September 3: Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) community is elated at the appointment of its Registrar, Prof. Mohammad Mahtab Alam Rizvi, as Visiting Professor at the South Asia Centre for Peace Research and Sustainable Development of Lumbini Buddhist University, Nepal.

Congratulating him on this achievement, JMI Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif remarked: “It is a matter of pride for Jamia that our Registrar has received such international recognition. Prof. Rizvi’s scholarship, dedication and perseverance have earned him this honour, which is indeed an honour for the entire Jamia fraternity.”

The Centre at Lumbini University is dedicated to promoting global research in peace-building, diplomacy, regional cooperation and sustainable development.

Expressing his gratitude on the appointment, Prof. Rizvi said: “I am delighted and grateful for this opportunity to contribute to advancing peace-building, diplomacy, regional cooperation and sustainable development.”

A distinguished academic and administrator, Prof. Rizvi brings with him more than two decades of teaching and research experience. Since March 2025, he has been serving as the regular Registrar of JMI, after previously directing the Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution at the university.

Specialising in international relations, foreign policy and security studies, Prof. Rizvi has worked with leading government institutions and think tanks, including the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA), New Delhi. His expertise covers Iran and its nuclear programme, conflicts and peace in West Asia and North Africa, South Asia–West Asia relations, and Iran–China political, economic and defence engagements.

He currently serves as Visitor’s Nominee to the Court of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and as an external member of the Institutional Academic Integrity Panel (IAIP) of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad, besides holding memberships in several boards and centres of JMI.

Prof. Rizvi earned his PhD in Political Science (International Relations) from AMU and is a recipient of the prestigious Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Fellowship, Teen Murti House, New Delhi.

The Jamia fraternity has also expressed pride at this accomplishment. Among those congratulating Prof. Rizvi were Prof. Abul Khair, Prof. Iqtidar Mohammad Khan, Prof. Himayun Akhtar Nazmi, Prof. Mohammad Muslim Khan, Prof. Mohammad Sharif, Prof. Anisur Rahman, Prof. Rehan Khan Suri, and Dr. Mohammad Arshad Khan, who jointly observed that “this appointment is not only a personal achievement but also a matter of collective pride for the entire Jamia community.’’
