Muslims should not remain spectators but become nation-builders: Dr. Shahid Akhtar

New Delhi, 27 September.

The TalKatora Indoor Stadium in New Delhi transformed into a vibrant epicenter of vision, unity, and resolve as the Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) convened its All India Muslim Maha Sammelan. The atmosphere was electric, filled with the voices of thousands of participants who had traveled from every corner of the country – workers, intellectuals, academicians, community leaders, and social activists.

This was not a mere meeting; it was a moment of historic significance and a declaration of intent. It sent a resounding message that Indian Muslims will no longer remain passive spectators to the country’s journey but will become active participants in building a new India – one rooted in social harmony, equality, and shared progress. The stadium echoed with chants of unity, patriotism, and reform, setting the tone for the community’s vision of the future.

The program was attended by Muslim Rashtriya Manch’s Chief Patron Indresh Kumar, Chairman of the JPC on Waqf and senior MP Jagdambika Pal, former Union Minister Satyanarayan Jatiya, Chairman of Ajmer Sharif Dargah Khwaja Nasruddin, Chief Imam of the All India Imam Organization Maulana Umer Ilyasi, Acting Chairman of NCMEI Dr. Shahid Akhtar, President of BJP Minority Morcha Jamal Siddiqui, Chairman of Nizamuddin Dargah Salmi Nizami, National Convener Mohammad Afzal, Dr. Shalini Ali, Shahid Sayeed and President of Jamiat Himayat-ul-Islam Organization Qari Abrar Jamal, along with many other dignitaries from across the country.

Indresh Kumar’s Call for National Renewal

In his keynote address, MRM Chief Patron Indresh Kumar delivered a powerful and impassioned speech that struck at the heart of the challenges facing the nation. He denounced terrorism as a form of pure satanism, declaring that it has no religion, caste, or color. His words – “We were, we are, and we will always remain Hindustani. No one can question our identity” – drew thunderous applause from the crowd and renewed pride in a shared Indian identity. He called upon the audience to unite against terrorism and drug addiction, describing them as twin evils that must be eradicated to protect the nation’s moral and social fabric.

Reminding the gathering of MRM’s past efforts, Indresh Kumar spoke about the movement’s historic role in the abolition of Triple Talaq, which restored dignity to Muslim women across the country. He urged the community to focus on education, culture, and progress as the pillars of a united and strong India. He also raised a strong warning about the growing problem of Rohingya and other infiltrators in regions like Bihar, cautioning that if illegal entrants capture jobs and resources, it will make it increasingly difficult for Indian Muslims to find work and build secure futures. His pointed question – “If infiltrators get the jobs, how will Indian Muslims secure their livelihood?” – resonated deeply with the audience and drew calls for urgent action.

Dr. Shahid Akhtar’s Visionary Roadmap for the Next 25 Years

Dr. Shahid Akhtar, Acting Chairman of the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI), delivered a thoughtful and visionary address, calling this convention not merely a celebration of MRM’s 25-year journey but a turning point that demands new energy and commitment for the next quarter century. He reminded the audience that Indian Muslims have a historic responsibility to become partners in nation-building and that sitting on the sidelines is no longer an option.

These initiatives are aimed at empowering Muslim youth, improving access to education, integrating all sections of society into mainstream employment, and restoring a sense of dignity and purpose to the community. Speaking on the theme “I Love Mohammad,” he emphasized that Prophet Mohammad’s life stands as the foundation of Muslim identity – a foundation built on love, knowledge, and justice – and that it is vital for the entire world to understand and respect this truth.

Mohammad Afzal on the Journey of the Manch

National Convenor Mohammad Afzal spoke emotionally about the incredible journey of MRM, recalling its humble beginnings in just two rooms with 110 participants. Today, he said, with over 10,000 people present at this convention, the organization stands as living proof of the strength of its ideals and its deep roots within society. He declared that MRM is well on its way to becoming the greatest symbol of social harmony in the country, and in the coming years, it will unite lakhs of workers and emerge as a formidable national force for positive transformation.

Endorsements from Eminent National Leaders

The convention also saw several eminent leaders and dignitaries share their perspectives. JPC Chairman and senior MP Jagdambika Pal praised MRM for standing firm against divisive forces and lauded the government’s decision to digitize every inch of Waqf land as a bold step toward transparency and the welfare of Muslims. Khwaja Nasruddin, Chairman of Ajmer Sharif Dargah, spoke about India being the most just country in the world, granting equal rights to all its citizens. Maulana Umer Ilyasi, Chief Imam of the All India Imam Organization, delivered a stirring reminder that “the DNA of Hindus and Muslims is one, and we must never forget this shared identity.” Former Union Minister Satyanarayan Jatiya commended MRM for its consistent contribution to national causes and its role in promoting unity and reform within society.

Dr. Shalini Ali on Muslim Women’s Leadership

One of the most powerful moments of the day came when Dr. Shalini Ali, National Convenor and head of the Women’s Wing of MRM, took the stage. Delivering an inspiring and passionate speech, she declared that Muslim women will no longer remain mere beneficiaries of change – they will rise to lead. She said, “After the abolition of Triple Talaq, a new dawn has broken. Our mission now is to empower women through education, skill development, and financial independence so that they can play a decisive role in nation-building.”

Dr. Ali stressed that women’s empowerment is not just a social requirement but a fundamental condition for building a modern, prosperous India. She called on Muslim women to come forward, lead society, and be agents of positive transformation in their communities and the nation at large.

MRM’s Legacy and Its Future Path

Over the past 25 years, the MRM has played a decisive role in many of the nation’s historic milestones – from the abolition of Triple Talaq, the construction of the Ram Mandir, and the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A, to the ban on PFI, the passage of the Waqf Reform Law, the Tiranga Yatras, and powerful anti-terror campaigns. The convention resolved that in the coming years, even stronger and more organized campaigns will be launched to promote education, create employment opportunities, empower women, combat drug addiction, and strengthen national unity.
